Abstract

Abstract

Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases among non-communicable diseases and is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia. Nurses are responsible for raising awareness of individuals so that the disease requires long-term follow-up and care, making various changes in their lifestyles, and ensuring the continuity of care. Today, with the increase in the use of technological equipment, nurses have started to use tele-health applications in order to improve the health care behaviors of individuals with diabetes. Tele-health applications have gained great importance especially in the follow-up of the treatment process of those living in areas far from health institutions, elderly patients and individuals who cannot apply to hospitals due to COVID-19 restrictions in today's conditions. In the literature, it is stated that telehealth applications in individuals with diabetes are beneficial in providing glycemic control, reducing acute and chronic complications, and improving self-management skills. The aim of this review is to examine the effects of using telehealth applications, which are becoming widespread today, in diabetes management; to discuss the tele-health application examples presented to individuals with diabetes in the world and in our country.
